Hey. Wouldn’t it be great to be 100% in tune with your intuition and to feel a deep connection with everything and everyone in the physical and astral realm?
If that sounds like heady stuff, it is. Today’s topic is the crown chakra — the highest energy center and level of awareness in the chakra system. The crown chakra is all about thoughts, thinking, and your mental space and how it connects to the outside and inner world.
Some say that you can’t hope to work on the crown chakra until you’ve already done the foundational work in the lower chakras, like the root and sacral chakra. But hey — it can’t hurt to have an understanding of it, right?
Below, you’ll learn all about the crown chakra — including why we coordinated our Blushing tea with it, and how you can keep yours in check.
But first…
Why Are We Talking About the Chakras?
We’re proud to announce a brand-new product: Big Heart Tea Co.’s Chakra Tea Boxed Set. This is a product near and dear to our hearts, and it’s been a long time coming!

You may not know this, but Big Heart Tea Co. actually came about just as founder Lisa was coming out of ashram life.
Tea became one of the key manifestations of her goal to integrate the hatha / kundalini into her life.
💡 Here’s a fun fact: Big Heart Tea Co.’s original line of 7 teas was organized and inspired by the chakra system. Blushing is the tea that we currently align to the crown chakra. Not only is its magenta hue harmonious with the deep purple color associated with the crown chakra, but its blend of organic hibiscus, organic lemongrass, and organic tulsi can clear your energy and make you more receptive to the world inside and around you. (We’ll explain all of this in a bit more detail later on.)
Chakra Basics
Not familiar with the chakra system? Don’t worry — That’s what this series of blog posts will explore by unpacking each chakra, one by one. We’ve also put together this nifty little primer on the chakras for you:

But here’s the nutshell version: Chakras are a series of energy systems throughout your body. Moving beyond just your body, this system can be used as an organizational tool to help you live a more integrated and connected life with yourself, others, and your surroundings.
Think of the chakra system as a ladder. It walks you through the basic feelings and senses that we have as humans. You can apply this to any creative process or any process in life. It is a model to connect within our human experience.
Circling back to tea, Big Heart Tea Co.’s chakra inspiration isn’t just about delivering yummy stuff in appealing packaging (though yes, that mattered too) — the herbs and message behind each tea are aligned with bringing a specific chakra into balance.
In this series of blog posts, we’ll dig deep into each of the chakras, including exploring its meaning and how to keep yours in balance with suggested practices, mantras, and yes — the perfect tea.
The Crown Chakra
The crown chakra is located at the top of your head — or rather, slightly above. Like where the jewel on a physical crown might be, radiating upward. It governs your highest powers of awareness, both conscious and unconscious. Need a visual? Just imagine purple fireworks coming from the top point of your head.
The crown chakra is associated with your brain region and everything that comes with it — the nervous system, the pituitary gland, the pineal gland and the hypothalamus.
In this post, we’ll go through all the important stuff: What is the crown chakra? How does it work? How can you keep the crown chakra balanced? And more. That’s a lot, so let’s get moving!
At-a-Glance: Crown Chakra Basics + Associations
Here’s what you need to know about the crown chakra.
What it is: Your center of wisdom, universal consciousness, and higher guidance.
Sanskrit Name for the crown chakra: Sahasrara, which means "Great Sound” — representing the primal sound or spark from which all creation emanates.
Where it is: At the top of your head or hovering slightly above it.
Associations:
- The crown chakra is associated with no element, but rather pure spirit
- The crown chakra is associated with the color purple
- The crown chakra is associated with the sound “aum,” the seed sound that represents the beginning of everything — the creation of the universe and everything within it.
- The crown chakra is associated with the yogic path of meditation.
Best tea for the root chakra: Big Heart Tea Co.’s Blushing brews up a beautiful shade of magenta
But these are just the basics. Let’s go into more detail below.
What is the Crown Chakra All About?
The crown chakra is your tether to the universe. It acts as your center of spirit, and it’s associated with enlightenment, universal connection and consciousness, and wisdom.
The crown chakra is associated with the divine, but it’s also connected to the earthly realm, namely your nervous system, which is like the body’s freeway to receive for the nervous system.
The Importance of Keeping the Crown Chakra Balanced
Balancing the crown chakra is deep work that relies on the foundation of balanced lower chakras. Many people’s third eye and crown chakra aren’t even activated because it’s simply too much to deal with our human experience.
That said, aren’t you curious to know what it might feel like to have a balanced crown chakra one day?
But what does it feel like to have a balanced crown chakra?
Ever heard the song “I Can See Clearly Now”? Actually, it’s a pretty succinct summary of what it feels like to have a balanced crown chakra. Here are the lyrics:
“I can see clearly now, the rain has gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind”
A balanced crown chakra doesn’t mean eternal perfection and bliss, but it does mean having confidence in yourself, feeling inner peace, feeling connected to your purpose, and feeling like you’re where you should be in life.
On the other hand, if your crown chakra’s out of balance, you might feel…
Overly attached
Out of touch with yourself
Full of doubt
A lack of connection with others and with the world around you
Inability to focus
Confusion, indecisiveness
Depression
Happily, there are certain practices that can help you keep your crown chakra healthy. Here are just a few:
How to Balance Your Crown Chakra
Here are some basic practices that can help get you back in balance:
- Get spiritual. Commit to a spiritual practice. This doesn’t have to mean going to church. It could be regular walks in nature, or creating sacred family time where there’s no tech allowed.
- Meditate. If you want to promote self-awareness and clear your mind and body to be receptive to what the universe has to offer, meditation is one of the best ways to do it. It can help open all of your chakras and open you up to receiving divine energy.
- Keep your space clean. A cluttered, messy space isn’t conducive to emotional well-being or a “clean” house of chakras.
- Be a lifelong learner. Continuing to learn and grow is one of the most powerful ways to develop humility, maintain a beginner’s mind, and develop awareness of the people, creatures, and things around you.
Want a more specific prescription? Here’s a little ritual we came up with to soothe the crown chakra
Crown Chakra Ritual
Step 1: Brew up some Blushing. Be sure to take the time to make every part of the process mindful. Choose a beautiful cup or vessel. Sit somewhere peaceful to enjoy it. Don’t scroll your phone while you drink.
Step 2: Meditate. Meditation comes in many forms. It could be traditional seated meditation, a visualization meditation (here’s a good crown chakra visualization meditation, a sound bath.
Step 3: Get in tune with the divine with these mantras:
- I honor the divine within me
- I am open and receptive to new ideas
- The world is my teacher
Why We Coordinated Blushing with the Crown Chakra
The crown chakra is connected to the freeway that is your nervous system, so we wanted to choose a tea that supports your nervous system in every way.
First, hibiscus. This beautiful flower not only brews up a beautiful and tart magenta tea, but it provides natural support to the nervous system, which can help reduce anxiety and depression.
Lemongrass is an herb that’s referred to as a “nervine” — meaning it provides targeted support to the nervous system by lowering stress hormone levels, making it a tonic for stress and burnout. Additionally, its clean, crisp flavor just makes your whole system feel clean and sparkly.
And as for tulsi — we could talk about its benefits all day. It’s the base of the majority of our teas for many good reasons (this post explains them in detail). But one thing to note about tulsi is that it’s naturally adaptogenic. Adaptogens are plant substances that can help you deal with stress and restore balance if you’ve been in a state of stress. Experts believe that adaptogens have conversations with the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis, which is in charge of your body’s stress response.
Grab some Blushing and connect to yourself and the universe!

Important note from BHT founder Lisa Govro:
In offering our Chakra set, I feel it is important to acknowledging my own cultural background. As a white, cis-gendered woman of European descent teaching about the chakra system and tea, I must recognize that my cultural background might influence how I approach and present this knowledge.
